School Curriculum

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme provides a curriculum which allows students to develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills they need to participate effectively in life in the twenty-first century.

At the core of the IB Middle Years Programme are three fundamental concepts:

  • Intercultural awareness
  • Communication

IB Learner Profile

IB Learner Profile unites intellectual, personal, emotional and social growth through all domains of knowledge promoting the education of the whole person as a lifelong learner. Learning is developed around fostering ten attributes of the IB learner profile:

Programme model

Teaching is given a holistic approach and is organised with the student in the focus.

The features of the programme that help students develop disciplinary and interdisciplinary understanding:

  • Approaches to learning
  • Approaches to learning is the key component of the MYP for developing skills for learning. The programme encourages the use of a variety of learning skills and teaching methodologies to produce a challenging environment where students learn how to learn best in different contexts.

  • Approaches to teaching - emphasizing MYP pedagogy, including collaborative learning through inquiry

  • Concepts - highlighting a concept-driven curriculum

  • Global contexts - showing how learning best takes place in context:

  • Service as Action
  • The school programme develops a variety of opportunities for students' involvement in service in every year of the programme through the school-designated projects and self-initiated service activities.

  • Broad and balanced curriculum through eight subject groups that are connected through global contexts and key concepts:

Apart from English, which is the language of instruction, Croatian, German, French, Italian and Chinese are taught. There is also a possibility to learn Latin and Greek. English Language Support (ESL) classes are offered for students whose level of English is not sufficient to follow regular classes.

The school offers numerous optional subjects and extracurricular activities: School Cooperative, Food Technology, School Radio Group, Chinese Culture, Religion, Animation, Graphic and Design, Geography of Croatia, IT classes, Do-It-Yourself, Permaculture, Choir, Piano classes, Tennis, Football, Basketball and Volleyball.

Field classes

Field classes are frequently organized as a part of our programme, varying in duration and content. They advance interactive and creative methods of learning, provide students with first-hand learning experiences, reinforce and expand concepts taught in class and enable students to participate in a variety of cross-curricular activities.
