SCHOOL BROCHURE

ABOUT US

Since 2002 our school has been managed in accordance with the regulations from the regional office in Geneva, following the program of the International Baccalaureate (IB), which is the most extensive international program, accepted in more than hundred countries worldwide. Classes are organised according to the IB program, for the students from grades 6, 7 and 8 (MYP 1, 2, 3). Having introduced the education in the English language, we have become a part of Europe and the world, while the opening of the first primary International school has secured us a place in the chain of International schools of the world. The school places a special accent on promoting different cultures and developing intercultural awareness, mutual cooperation and tolerance.

MISSION STATEMENT

Our aim is to empower students to reach their full potential in a supportive and challenging holistic learning environment, preparing them for an active role as confident, caring and tolerant lifelong learners.

ABOUT THE IB PROGRAM

The program extends over twelve years and is divided into three sections. In our school, the students begin their second educational period, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and finish the first three levels, continuing their education in the IB secondary school which issues the internationally recognized diploma after completing the entire program.
The school has been given access to the Curriculum Centre in Cardiff which offers professional services to all the international schools in the world and promotes the innovations in the education thus connecting us with world education trends.

MYP CURRICULUM MODEL

Middle Years Programme is especially designed to meet the educational needs of learners between the ages of 11 and 16. At this age, students are making the transition from early puberty to mid – adolescence: this is a crucial period of personal, social and intellectual development, of uncertainty and questioning. The MYP provides a curriculum which allows students to develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills they need to participate effectively in life in the twenty-first century. It provides a framework of learning that encourages students to become creative, critical and reflective thinkers. It emphasizes intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make connections between their studies in traditional subjects and the real world. It fosters the development of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global engagement - essential qualities for young people who are becoming global leaders. The MYP is designed to guide students in their search for a sense of place in the natural and social environment. The programme encourages the use of variety of teaching and learning methodologies to produce a climate where students discover how they learn best in different contexts.
The MYP organizes teaching and learning through eight subject groups:

  • 1. Language and Literature - English/Croatian
  • 2. Language Acquisition – English/Croatian/ German/French/Italian/Chinese
  • 3. Individuals and societies - History, Geography
  • 4. Sciences - General Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
  • 5. Mathematics
  • 6. Design – Product and Digital
  • 7. Arts – Music, Visual Art, Drama
  • 8. Physical and Health Education

The fundamental concepts of the Middle Years Programme are holistic learning, intercultural awareness and communication.

ABOUT THE CLASSES

Through the area of Art (Music, Visual Art, Drama), we promote the diversity of national cultures, as well as the creativity of students. The school offers numerous extracurricular activities (School Radio Group, Food Technology, Chinese Culture, Animation, Graphic and Design, Geography of Croatia, IT classes, Do-It-Yourself, Permaculture, School Cooperative, Choir, Piano classes, Tennis, Football, Basketball and Volleyball) as well as additional classes for gifted students. Beside the English, Croatian, German, French, Italian and Chinese language we also offer classical languages (Latin and Greek) classes.
Our annual/school projects aim at advancing the interactive and engaging methods of learning in and outside the classroom, promote meaningful and hands-on learning experience, promote studying in an easy, interesting, creative and funny way and allow the students to participate in a variety of cross-curricular activities. The annual projects are designed to embrace numerous integrated days/lessons, field trips, community and service events, project presentations and cultural events.
The approach to learning sets high standards in the didactic and methodical shaping of the classes, which we realize through the professional seminars for teachers in the European, Middle East and African countries within the IB, language immersion programs as well as the modern educational technologies, which substantially transform the process of teaching.
