Central Dalmatia Field Trip

On the 7th of May we set off on a wonderful four-day adventure to Dalmatia.

After the departure from Zagreb we first visited the freshwater aquarium Aquatika in Karlovac. We learnt there about the underwater world of the Croatian rivers and lakes. Our next stop was the beautiful Klis Fortress where we were guided by the Klis Uskoks who explained us why Klis used to be an important defence point in the Croatian history. In the museum we saw a series of arms, armour and traditional uniforms. We explored the filming locations of the Game of thrones and recalled the spirit of the past by practising archery. In the evening we arrived to our hotel in Brela where we were accommodated.

The second day we visited the hydroelectric power plant "Zakucac" where we learnt how the water energy was converted to mechanical energy which was then converted into electricity.

After that we went to Omis where we met Omis pirates who took us on a wonderful boat ride through the magnificent canyon of the Cetina River while talking about glorious Omis pirate history. The boat ride ended at the Radman Mills where we had lunch and participated in fun pirate games. The games included pulling the rope, arm wrestling and throwing hoops. We had some free time for sport games as well - we played mini-golf, basketball and football. Our pirate tour ended at the Mirabella fortress where we admired the spectacular view of the town of Omis. In the evening during the Pirate night all MYP classes competed in the game "How well do you know each other".

May is the season of strawberries, so on the third day we went picking strawberries in Vrgorac. We are proven that Vrgorac strawberries are famous as being the best in Croatia. After the picking we had a traditional Dalmatian outdoor snack. Then we visited the ethno-village "Kokorici", the traditional Dalmatian settlement with a rich historical and cultural heritage full of traditional stone houses and dry stone walls, but also with two new swimming pools! We had lunch there and later enjoyed bowling and pulling the rope contest. We also visited the Primary School "Vrgorac" in Kokorici and met the students from 1st to 4th grade. We spent some time with them in their school. We would love to cherish this new-born friendship, so we invited them to visit us in Zagreb. In the afternoon we visited the town of Makarska where we enjoyed our free time. In the evening we organised the beach party - while most of us were dancing, some of us went for a night swim!

On the last day of our field trip we visited the town of Split. Upon arrival we went on a bike tour in the Marjan Forest Park. Then we were sightseeing the old town of Split - the Diocletian's Palace with four gates, St. Domnius Cathedral, Peristyle, Vestibule, Jupiter's Temple and Gregory of Nin Statue. It was finally a perfect sunny day!

On our way back we were sad that our short but unforgettable adventure ended but we are all looking forward to our next one!
