Exceptional week in our school

Trešnja Theatre

PYP students always enjoy time spent in the theatre. Accordingly, this January we visited the theatre in our school's vicinity, Trešnja, and saw the play by August Šenoa entitled Postolar i vrag. In a crowded theatre PYP students had fun watching one heart-warming story about a poor shoe man who tries everything to provide a good life for his family. In the end, as it always is in life, we learned that being good always pays off.

Five-headed Dragon

On Monday we started with an art project called "Five-headed Dragon". We were doing a special piece of art on a large piece of paper in combined technique. Firstly they had to do the sketch of an unusual animal. Secondly, we took the most interesting parts of every animal they drew individually. After we put all those details together on a paper, the students started to work in groups. The purpose was to improve art skills, students' patience and creativity. They had to name the animal as well. We combined few names and finally found the right one.

During the week we worked on improving our students' reading, writing and listening skills. Arithmetic practice was also included. Art workshops were a part of everyday routine. Our students made Chinese fans and Lady Liberty portraits in combined technique, the Pag lace in ink and flags in glycerine monotyping.

Our School's Birthday

We were celebrating our school's birthday by painting Matija Gubec's portrait, baking brownies, making moustache, listening and reading short stories about the school's history.

Famous recipe - Matija Gubec Brownies

The students were excited when we moved to the Homesteading classroom. They had to follow the steps of the recipe carefully. They took it seriously and started to mix ingredients immediately. The brownies were delicious and we all enjoyed eating them a lot.

If you want to try it at home follow the recipe:

1. Heat the oven to 200 C.
2. Melt the chocolate and the butter in the pan.
3. Mix the eggs, sugar and the flour in a bowl. Add melted chocolate and mix all together.
4. Pour the mixture in a greased pan.
5. Bake it in the oven for 15 - 20 minutes. Serve it warm.

Rock Climbing

Rock climbing has been revolutionised with the advent of artificial climbing walls. Artificial climbing is sport of climbing on an indoor or outdoor wall whose surface simulates a mountain. We have one in our school!

Students are incredibly excited because of the new Artificial Climbing Wall in the hall of our school. Everyone wants to try climbing as soon as possible. We went to the Rock-Climbing Workshop, led by Teacher Ratko, who is a climber. We learnt the basic moves, warm up exercises and interesting games. In a little while they eagerly started climbing and they were, of course, thrilled!

You should also try it but it's not as easy as it seems.
